Hello Reader,

How are you this fine week of July!

I was so grateful the sun decided to visit us yesterday but of course with the sun comes the heat.

This week, I opened our most recent electric bill and I was flabbergasted. As the cost of electricity continues to rise – I continue to get creative and make sure that we are using our resources as best we can - so we can live our best regenerative life.

One thing I thought of is our freezer space.

Did you know that freezers are at their most efficient when they are full? Freezers work to keep the air in the freezer cooled – so filling them to top and having less air space, will help them work less.

Ways to fill your freezer for maximum efficiency:

  1. Fill your freezer with local meats and in season veggies and fruits!
  2. If you have a way to combine freezers and shut one off – your deep freezer is going to be more efficient than an upright freezer.
  3. Fill repurposed jugs or jars with water and let them freeze and take up space. Just be careful to not fill them too much if they are glass so they don’t break. Also, if you freeze them and then leave a headspace at the top and then once there are frozen flip them over you have a power outage freezer detector! If the water in the jug melts and refreezes you know your freezer was off for an extended period of time and you’ll have more info about how long your freezer was off.
  4. Fill the remaining space with anything extra you have so there is less air – you can even use blankets, pillows or an old sleeping bag!

Do you have any other tips for keeping your freezer energy use down?

We send you so many good thoughts of fun barbecues, warm swimming, cool drinks, and loving community to you this week!

With care your farmers, Sarah & Nick

Hello friends and farm family, It is with love in our hearts and tears in our eyes that we have some news that may seem shocking. We have been on a regenerative journey for many years here in Maine. And now we will be moving to where regenerative agriculture is really needed. We are going to miss you!!! Our family is moving and our regenerative journey is taking us out west to a more brittle environment to do what we love the most grazing ruminates. We can't say this enough - so we are going...

It has been a wonderfully fulfilling and challenging month of September and we thank you so much for your love and appreciation. The month of September challenged us with much rain including the grand finale of the hurricane and then subsequent nor'easter which became hard to manage in the field as the pastures in some...
